  1. Hello Toroa, are you at Wigrim School. How are you enjoying your lovely new school? When I went for a look at your school I loved the little hills you have on the field, I bet they are fun to roll down?

That is very cool that you have been to our school, we love the hills they are fun to play on at morning tea and lunch time!
    What school are you from?

  3. Thanks for your reply. I am the Acting Principal at South Hornby School - Te Manu Tukutuku. We moved into our new school about a year ago. What do you think our name means in Maori? Do you have a Maori name for your school?

  4. The children in Toroa have had a big conversation about your school and how cool your new swimming pool is. Sometimes we drive past it when we go to Hornby.
Do you like your swimming pool? Do all of the children get to use it most days?
Our Maori name is Te Piki Kāhu.

  5. Hi everyone, yes we are super lucky to have such an amazing pool and are students are still swimming in it. We can do this because it is heated. The classes use it on a roster system and if they don't have formal swimming lessons on a given day they are allowed a free swim at lunch time. What does Te Piki Kāhu mean?

  6. That is very cool, do you have lots of pool toys? We like swimming with floater boards.
What does Te Manu Tukutuku mean? We would love to know! From Toroa Learning Space.

  7. We have lots of pool toys, the favourite is the inner-tube of tyres, we also rescued an inflatable swan that was blowing down the road one windy day! Manu Tukutuku - is the Maori word for kite. They were used a lot in this area (a long time ago) to send messages to other iwi or hapu. I wonder why they didn't use a telephone to ring each other?
